It is that time of year again. Time to reflect on what we have accomplished and what we what to accomplish in the new year.

If starting a new home based business is something that you have been thinking of doing but have been putting off the new year is the perfect time to start. I have been a member of Plug In Profits for almost four years now. Over that time there has been many changes. So many in fact I can not even begin to name them.

Is Blog Commenting Still Worth Your Time

It seems as if every time the topic of blog commenting is mentioned, everyone is quick to argue whether or not it is beneficial for search engine optimization purposes – specifically, building back links.  While this is a valid conversation, it often misses the point.  Blog commenting is a very powerful strategy, whether or not you believe that the back links being built will help your search engine rankings.  In order better to understand why blog commenting is still worth your time and effort, it is important to take a step back and look at what leaving a comment on someone else’s blog actually does for you.

The primary purpose of leaving blog comments is to generate more traffic to your website.  The unfortunate truth is that great content alone won’t make your blog popular or build your readership.  If no one knows that it is there, you can’t expect it to garner any attention.  From that standpoint blog commenting is a very powerful tool because it allows you passively to promote your blog, attract the interest of other people interested in your industry, and establish yourself as a credible source before readers even see your content.  Blog commenting allows you to illustrate your authority on a particular subject utilizing a property that someone else has spent time building.  It can also turn into a great way to build lasting relationships with other leaders in your industry, including the bloggers whose blog posts you comment on.

These benefits on their own would seem to indicate that leaving blog comments is something that could help, but the real question is whether or not it is worth your time.  In order to be a valuable strategy, you need to have a plan of action which requires a minimum amount of time to complete on a regular basis.  Here’s a quick look at a simplified blog commenting strategy that requires only 30 minutes to one hour per week.

The first two steps are essentially preparatory steps that will rarely need to be done. First, you need to find out where your target demographic or customers are already hanging out. The easiest way to do this is to look at other popular blogs within your industry or topic area.  If you see comments being left consistently on those blogs, then it is safe bet that your potential customers are actively engaged with that blog, which means that you can engage them with a comment of your own.

The second step is taking your list of blogs and limiting it to 10 to 25 of the best options. This strategy does not utilize the popular shotgun approach where you leave one or two comments on hundreds or thousands of blogs across the web.  Instead you want to focus all of your time and energy on those 10 to 25 blogs.  This will allow you to gain maximum visibility on web properties which are targeting the same demographic that you are.  Essentially, you are piggybacking the hard work that other website owners have already done.  In order for this strategy to be successful, you will need to make an informative comment once per week on each blog.  In most cases, it should be at least two paragraphs of 2 to 3 sentences.  Not only does this show that you are interested in the topic, but also lets others know that you are trying to provide valuable information which adds to the discussion.

When implementing the strategy, you will not only gain the attention of other people reading those blogs, but often from the blog owners themselves.  As a result, you will be able to build relationships and partnerships within the industry as well is gained more notoriety and interest in your website.

Using this strategy, you can spend as little as one hour per week leaving blog comments, yet receive valuable benefits that would make blog commenting worth your time and effort.

Easy Ways To Promote Your Home-Based Business

Most newbie Internet marketers find the job of promoting their home-based business website to be one of the most difficult challenges they face. 3. Twitter: Set up a Twitter account for your business. Search for Twitter users who may be interested in your market area and follow them. Some will follow you back. Offer value to your followers by tweeting tips and advice about your niche. Be nice to them by retweeting interesting tweets to generate goodwill and raise your profile. When you update your website, blog, Squidoo lens and so on, post a link to it on Twitter.

4. Social Networking Sites: Apart from Twitter, make sure you have a business presence on Facebook, LinkedIn and Google Plus. If you already have a personal account on Facebook and want to keep personal and business activities, set up a Facebook business page and use the privacy settings to keep them apart.

5. Go Local: Just because you can market worldwide on the Internet doesn’t mean you should neglect your local community. Indeed, you may find it much easier to position yourself as the local expert simply by ensuring that your web business is visible in the community. You can do that by setting up an account on Google Places and Yahoo Local.

6. Offer a Service: This is a great way to build your reputation and your business, and generate some income at the same time. Use a service such as elance.com to offer to do jobs related to your business niche. Your satisfied customers will most likely be very amenable to a follow-up in which you introduce them to your main business services.

7. Get into the habit of writing articles and distributing them on article directories such as EzineArticles. Post a link back to your website and offer an incentive for the reader to click through, such as a report giving more information about the topic you wrote about in the article.

8. Any time you create a new product or service, be sure to publish a press release using a service such PRLeap or PRWeb.

9. Email Signature: Let’s finish with the quickest and easiest free marketing technique of them all!
Set up a signature file in your email account with a link back to your website and a brief, catchy, blurb about what you do. Set it to go out at the foot of every email you send. Update it once every few weeks to keep it fresh.

Improve Your Website Rankings By Researching Keywords And Repurposing Your Content

There are two areas that every webmaster who wants to improve his or her search engine rankings must focus on: content creation and link building. The watchwords in both cases are “quality” and “relevance”. For the big, rich and successful Internet marketers, creating a stream of high quality, relevant content every day does not pose any great challenge, but for small, struggling, Internet entrepreneurs, creating good quality relevant content is one of the biggest challenges they face.

However, the task can be made easier by learning to do keyword research and then to repurpose your content after you have created it.



Keyword Research

You can research what people are searching for in your niche by using the free Google Keyword Tool:

When researching keyword phrases on the Google Keyword Tool, uncheck the “Broad Match” checkbox and check the “[Exact]” match checkbox. Also, make sure your “Advanced Options and Filters” settings are appropriately set for your research parameters.

Now, experiment with a list of keyword phrases related to your niche and see what comes up in the results. Look out for relevant keyword phrases that have low-medium competition and high monthly search volume. If you use the Adsense service to earn money through ppc ads, then you will also want to check the Approximate CPC column for high earning key phrases.

When you have done your research and have a list of twenty or more keyword phrases, search those phrases on Google and check out the top five or six websites and read the articles, watch the videos, listen to the podcasts, join their lists, download their freebies and so on. Take notes as you do this and pretty soon you will start generating a lot of ideas for creating original, high quality, relevant content of your own.

Content Creation

Once you have done that you will be ready to produce a series of articles around each different keyword phrase. So now it is time to move into the content production phase of your campaign.

Here, it makes good sense to develop a step-by-step routine which will turn single articles into a stream of content across several different distributing outlets such as blogs and article directories, and also using different media such as audio and video, and so on. The watchword for this operation is “repurposing” your content.

Repurposing Your Content

With the recent launches of  Host Then Profit and 7 Minute Work Out I have neglected to post about Perpetual 20 and all the benefits that membership brings.
