Focus on Your Home Business

When you first start an online business it’s very easy to get over whelmed with all the new terminology and the different affiliate programs to join (The Plug In Profit Site is a excellent place to start if you are new to affiliate marketing) . You soon realize that it’s not as easy as putting a web site together and waiting for the money to roll in.

You have to advertise, research additional streams of income, research keywords for your site, and the list goes on and on. Before you know it you’ve spent all day on the computer and have achieved nothing.

Be careful not to do everything all in one day. It’s very easy to start on one project and then get side tracked by another site and then another and so on. Your main goal is to drive traffic to your site. The sales will come eventually but first you have to have the visitors.

The best plan is to work one thing a day. If you focus on one or two subjects all day instead of several and devote all your time to them, in the long run your results will be significantly better. At the end of the day if you still are not happy with your progress you have to move on and come back to it the next week. Remember, there are several things that must be done in order for you to make money from home, not just one or two.

A very easy way to accomplish this is a daily planner. First you need to write down what your long term goal is. Do you want to work from home full time, do you just need an extra source of income etc. When do you want to reach this goal? Be realistic, of course you want it now but set a date that is reachable. Then break down your goal in time frames, six months, three months, weekly, and finally daily.

An example of a weekly planer would be

Monday-research the competition- you always want to know what the other guy is doing. Take notes of the sites that you like. How do they rank on the search engines compared to your site? Are they offering the same products as you? Do they offer a better product than you and if so can you get it. If it is a site listed in the top ten save it to your favorites and come back to it often.

Tuesday-Work the online forums, it is a very good way to offer advice to other people looking for information and you add your site signature to drive traffic to your site.

Wednesday-Write a few articles for your blog (I’m assuming you already have one if not get one. WordPress is the best) and a few to post in enzines. Google loves new content and especially blogs. Save your posts for your blog and post them at different times through the week. For your articles write one and then change the title and the first and last paragraph each time you submit it to a enzyme. This tactic alone will bring the most traffic to your site

Thursday- Work on your web site. Add a new link, change the color scheme, and reword the intro page. Remember, the search engines like new posts.

Friday- Research different advertising venues. There are hundreds of different ways to promote you site. Some are free and some cost money. Research as many as possible and decide what works best for you.

The best part of a plan is it can be changed. If you don’t get satisfactory results than rework it. Eventually you will see results if you stay focused on your short term and long term goals.
