The PPG Summer Challenge Comes To A End

Well after several weeks of competition the PIPS Power Group Summer Challenge has come to a close. This is the second year of the challenge and also my second year of competing in it.

The purpose of the PPG Challenge is to keep its members focused on their business during the dog days of summer when traditionally web traffic is lower, sales are lower, and it is easy to lose focus on promoting a Internet home business.

I’ll admit that last year I gave up early on during the challenge and never really tried. This year I new the challenge was coming and made a decision to actively participate and do all I could to better my website traffic.

First off I new that posting more regularly was a necessity so I decided to write several posts for my blog on the weekends when I had more time. Then during the week I  would have something to publish almost daily.

I also decided to get more actively involved in forums. This has always been a part of the link building process that I never have taken advantage of. This year I bookmarked all the forums I visit and made a folder for them. Now I can open the folder and open all the forums at once. It made it much more efficient and I ended up doing the same for all the traffic exchanges and article directory’s I use.

The overall goal of the competition was to increase our Alexa ranking and the amount of backlinks. I decided to set a goal before I started, regardless if I win the prize or not I wanted to significantly increase my rankings.

So here are my final totals

Alexa Ranking 6/26/2009 1,414,339  my goal was to get it lower then 700,000

Alexa Ranking 07/16/2009 625,577  Alexa rankings change constantly so this number can change at any time but I am very pleased with it

Backlinks 06/26/2009 -1050 my goal was to reach 1500
07/16/2009 – 1455 I came up short here but still I increased my backlinks my 400 in six weeks.

The winner of the PPG Challenge will be announced in about a week. I started this challenge not concerned about winning. I wanted to spend a few weeks focused on my website to see what kind of results I could get.

Now that I know that after only a few weeks I can achieve these results I will now stay focused. The PIPS Power Group achieved their goal.

Great testimonial John. I too participated both years and as you, I gave up early last year as I was not a committed newbie. I stuck with it longer this year and even tried to work while away on vacation. (Harder than you would expect).
The key is to continue like the contest is still going on and we will see even greater fruits.

    Thanks for sharing this

    Hi John,

Congratulations on your results. To half your Alexa rank and increase your backlinks by almost 50% is pretty impressive!

    Cheers,
    Suzanne

    Very nice post John!
The PPG Challenge was very exciting this year. I’m sure that it has helped a lot of people focus more on their home business. I was happy to just be part of the challenge. I know that future challenges like this one is a big plus for the PPG. Their main goal is always to help struggling Internet marketers take their home business to the next level. Thanks for sharing this post John.

    John,
The summer contest may be over, but the efforts and lessons learned must go on! Judging from the stats you’ve shown us you were a very busy guy and I respectfully applaud your efforts. It is encouraging to see that such numbers can be achieved over a relatively short period of time and should stand as an example for what can be achieved with hard work. Keep it up!

    Hi John

An excellent review on the PPG competition. I was very new last year and didn’t participate, but this year I took part as I felt that it was a win win situation. The fact is that just by taking part we all won, by improving the way we work on our businesses and the results speak for themselves.

    Well done on your achievement.

    Hi John,

I noticed you were very active this time round. The figures are impressive – and I notice that today your Alexa ranking is 611,522. How about coming onto the Evancarmichael.com forum and adding your “2009 Alexa ranking target” to a thread we are running there? If I were you I’d gun for a ranking below 400,000 by the year end :-) .

The PPG competition is highly motivating and it’s great to see how many people did it for a second time, as well as the newer faces. You’ve given a great testimony here and in the competition as well.

    Best wishes,

    David H

Congratulations John. I too participated in the contest but dropped half way due to offline commitments.

I am highly impressed with your goal setting and achievements. Perhaps you could extend the contest just for yourself for a few days more and you’ll beat the target on the backlinks also :-)
