Setting Up A Internet Home Business For Long Term Success

Many Internet home business owners fall into the trap of designing a website that generates short term bursts of income, rather than long term success.  Fortunately, with a little effort, it is easy to set up a business website that will generate long term profits, even as an affiliate marketer  Here is a quick look at some of the tactics that you can use in order to create a website that is both sustainable and profitable.

Choosing a Smart Domain Name

Many affiliate marketers will choose a domain name that includes a product name.  By including the product name in the name, it is more likely to ranked quickly and generate organic traffic.  However, this has a serious trade off with longevity.  Once this product is no longer popular or marketable, the website loses all of its value.  However, if you choose a domain name based upon the niche that the product is in, it will be more flexible down the road.  This means that when you need to switch offers that you are promoting, you can simply plug in a new offer that also relates to the niche.

Create Timeless Content

While it is important to always be sharing new content with visitors, many webmasters will only create content that is relevant for a few months or less.  If you plan on operating your Internet home business for years to come, it is critical that you create a set of articles that are timeless.  This way, you can build links to this type of content and visitors will always want to read it.  If you only create content that is product-specific or only relevant for a short time, you will end up constantly having to add more content and build more links that content.  If you are truly setting up a business website for long term success, it vital that you leverage your link-building efforts to gain maximum results over time.

Flexibility

If you are setting up a website for long term success, it must be easy to change.  One of the biggest problems that Internet home businesses  have is that when an offer is no longer available, one of two things will happen.  First, the affiliate marketer will simply leave in dead links, which will hurt their SERP’s and irritate readers.  Second, they will need to manually change all of their links, which is time consuming and tedious.  In order to avoid this, it is important to plan ahead and create ways that links can be automatically updated.  There are a number of different ways to do this utilizing commercial plugins, addons, or software.  Many affiliate marketers argue that one of the easiest ways to do this is by cloaking your affiliate links.  Then when a product needs to be changed, they can simply upload a new landing page to replace the outdated offer.

For example, you may have an offer1 with the following link –  HYPERLINK “http://offer1.com/affiliateID=1″.  Once you cloak the link and add it to your domain, it may look like this –  HYPERLINK “http://yourdomain.com/greatdeal”.  When offer 1 is no longer available, you can then simply take a new offer, cloak your affiliate link, and point it to  HYPERLINK “http://yourdomain.com/greatoffer”.  Now you do not have to change any links on your website to change offers.

As long as you plan ahead, setting up a business website for long term success, doesn’t have to be difficult for affiliate marketers.

    Hi, John:

Great tips on setting up an Internet home business for long term success. Your points one and two are good, but point three is the one that catches my attention!

My first marketing website was quite challenging to make changes with. I still run that site, but recently I started a new site that is so much easier. Now, instead of fighting with the website, I can concentrate on ways to improve my ability to earn home business income.

Thanks for great advice on setting up a website for longevity. You are right one needs to look to the future and not only think about what is popular right now. For a business website to perform for many years it needs to be correctly set up and you have brought this to the fore.
