I have been doign loads of research on the recent economic problems and the credit crunch in particular, floating around the blogosphere reading as many blogs as possible. I am almost at the conclusion that the current poor economic climate is been driven by the mainstream media ….. any thoughts on this ?

I do agree somewhat. While the U.S. economy is slowing down do to high food and gas prices the unemployment rate is still less than 6%.People are working but have less disposable income (starbucks announced yesterday they will be closing 600 stores and the auto makers had on of the worst months on record).
The media will always focus on the negitive news because it brings in ratings.
The fact that most people are still working and less than 6% employment is considered full employment by economists will not be mentioned
